• Expedition Medicine Course

    (mountain medicine)

    Annapurna Sanctuary, Nepal.

  • Course Specifics

    Introduction

Annapurna Sanctuary sits amongst the high Himalayan ranges where explorers find jungles, streams, rock and ice. Teams travel through winding trails, across mountain passes, through forests of oak and rhododendron that line the southern foothills of the Himalaya before ascending into the higher altitudes to witness the amphitheater that is Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC).

For the adventurous clinicians who are not afraid to go beyond, our expedition staff will immerse you in local cultures before opening a window to the top of the world and beyond.

    The Course

The Expedition Medicine (mountain medicine) Course is an expedition-based experience designed to immerse the participants in both a mountainous and an altitude environment. It is designed and facilitated by veteran expeditioners and clinicians with decades of experience working in clinical roles at altitude (and in mountainous terrain). Students will be exposed to, and be utilised in the planning, briefing and delivery of the expedition as well as the clinical and non-clinical sessions as the team move from the expedition staging point in Pokhara, to Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC) and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) at a whopping 4200 meters. The dynamic nature of facilitating a course during an expedition means that lesson are facilitated each day depending on variables such as weather, terrain and team progress. Nowhere else will you gain the skills and the experience at the same time!
